Franck's Sphinx

Sphinx franckii

Description:

Spotted another of these on Aug. 14 ... this one was in far better shape, out of traffic and with a chance to take its next step successfully. Wish my photos could do it proper justice. Late afternoon spotting, hard sunlight on a slant and the green pole didn't help. Still, a beautiful creature!

Saw two more of these this afternoon ... same location. All hatching out at about the same time, perhaps.

Thank you, Lucky ... this moth was positioned so that I could get a shot of its fuzzy little face. Jacob remarked, when I posted a quick shot of the same species over the weekend, that it's kind of an uncommon spotting. So it was pretty cool to get a chance to see it again. Ta-raaa!
