Rhagonycha fulva
Shiny, orange beetle-type insects.
Found on a thistle.
There were many in one area; many mating pairs.
It has to be the common red soldier beetle on a thistle like in this spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/660....
It's mating time for them.
That may be it ... I'll have to go back and try to get a better picture of them.
I don't think they're scarlet lily beetles, but that's certainly close. Thanks for the suggestion.
