Dogbane leaf beetle

Chrysochus auratus

Description:

A Japanese beetle-sized metallic beetle which changes hue depending on the angle of the light. The legs lack the spiky look of the Japanese beetle, and the Dogbane Leaf Beetle has smooth elytra rather than grooved.

Habitat:

Dogbane plants

Notes:

Found in between thunderstorms about 3' off the ground. Looks like it had sampled the margins of several leaves.
