common snapping turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Description:

This baby snapper was newly hatched and still wet with mud. It was found in our yard heading away from the river. My son took it to the river and it swam off like a pro.

Habitat:

They live in Zumbro River behind our house. The big mama lays her eggs at the edge of our yard which borders the river banks.
