Tobacco Cutworm

Spodoptera litura

Description:

Noctuidae; Noctuinae; Prodeniini; Spodoptera litura (Fabricius, 1775). The patterns on this moth are extremely ornate and well beyond my ability to describe. Even the Wikipedia article cleverly sidesteps the issue by explaining the difference in size between the male and female, but making little or no reference to the complexity of its appearance. Obviously for this spotting, the photos are the best descriptors.

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard vegetable plot on Gumbo (Abelmoschus esculentus) called Okra in Philippines.
