Junonia sophia
An attractive, medium sized butterfly, predominantly orange in colours, approx a bit over 4cm in wingspan.
Common African butterfly, found all over the continent south of Sahara, usually in forests and savanna. Here, seen in large numbers in an urban garden, rather poor in vegetation.

Junonia sophia is a widespread species in Africa, distributed from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Angola, Zambia and Malawi. The butterfly genus Junonia (family Nymphalidae) is named after the ancient Roman goddess Juno, and is found on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. Butterflies in this genus are commonly known as buckeyes, pansies or commodores".
