My plant book lists it as a perennial saprophyte. It is a myco-heterotroph. It parasites fungi that are in mycorrhizal relationships with vascular plants.

Habitat:

Pacific temperate rain forest in heavy shade on Sumas Mountain.

gorgeous grouping. I see the spotted coral root here but never in the size you have in this photo, usually only 1 or 2 stems.
