Golden Tortoise Shell Beetle

Description:

An orange Tortoise Shell Beetle with a gold iridescence and dark green spots. About 5 mm long. Family Chrysomelidae.

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

Notes:

As can be seen on the page for this species in Bug Guide, there is a great deal of variation from solid gold to a spotted gold-orange version like this one and even plain brown (See reference).
