Rat Snake

Elaphe obsoletus lindheimerii

Habitat:

East Texas Pineywoods

Notes:

I'm a little thrown as far as genus species and subspecies goes, it seems there is some argument on Wikipedia about where these guys belong.

Thanks! I usually try pretty hard to get my ID right so I was cursing Wikipedia and finally just picked one randomly :D

You are dead on with Rat Snake. The species and subspecies level taxonomy is contentious to say the least. I'd say it's Elaphe (or Pantherophis) obsoletus (or obsoleta) lindheimerii, but there are many who would disagree.
