Sunflower, Bumble bee, and a black ant

Helianthus annuus

Description:

A spotting hat trick: a sunflower; bumble bee (Bombus spp.); and some type of black ant. Nothing says "summer" like a big yellow sunflower! Notice the mathematical pattern of florets in the head of a sunflower. For more information, see the following reference: Mathematical model of floret arrangement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunflower#M...). This one's for you, Heather!

Looking thru your photos, I think we have the same taste in nature. This is an amazing shot! My hubby & I are also geocachers! Love the thrill of the hunt! I find a lot of "spottings" while caching too!! :)

Thanks Walter! I love it. Isn't the geometry cool! The bumblebee and ant are nice too.
