Blue-and-Yellow Macaw

(Ara ararauna)

Description:

This Macaw was part of some sort of demonstration/show at the Crossroads area at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia. I rounded a corner and saw it perched on the top of a building. Initially, I thought it looked out of place for Georgia, but took a few pictures anyhow. Then I heard an out-of-my-sight-crowd cheer as it flew over their heads to its handler's arm/perch. Then the handler and the bird disappeared.

Notes:

I did not catch the message of the demonstration, if there was one. Usually the Park is good about having some sort of historical or environmental message in their shows and entertainment, but sometimes they do get a little bit more show than education. I'm still racking my brain trying to think of the historical use of Macaws as it relates to Stone Mountain.
