Rebecca, there are lots of good laying breeds. Try to find out what breed suits you local weather conditions, etc. Also, some are better foragers, if you are free-ranging them. For coop layers, check out ISA Browns.
In process of building a yard coop to raise chickens and sale eggs...isn't this a good laying breed?
I like chickens. I took care of some Rhode Island Reds when I was a girl.
