Bos taurus
This dairy cow from the Simmental breed was spotted in a high mountain pasture well above the tree line. The Simmental breed is one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world.
Pastures, stables.
A common place of residence for cattle in the summer. Animals are moved further up throughout the season as grass becomes available at higher levels.

I'll be looking forward to your Italian/alpine spottings!
Haha yeah, will be very different!! We're going to stay in Milan, but hire a car so we can get around! I've stayed in the area before, but at Lake Garda :) This time around I'll have my own camera to take lots of photos!
Thanks LauraMaria! Where about in Northern Italy are you heading? It will be a change from the reseach ship!
Oh this is a really wonderful picture! I'm heading to Northern Italy next week for a vacation and we're planning on making a day trip to Switzerland, I hope I get to take as lovely alpine pictures as you have Daniele!
Looking forward to see your pics Ashish!
Hey...same is happening here...I will post such image post monsoon. I find many Cowboys (Indian just follow on their legs) take cattle to hills for free grass during my past trekking.
Thanks for your comments Susan, Ashish and Marta.!
Ashish, the bell is hollow inside and not heavy. Its aim is not to restrict the cow but to allow cattlemen to find lost animals listening to the ringing of bells. These animals are not in paddocks and roam free range, and can sometimes get lost (especially young ones)
She must be so active so that heavy ball hanged under her neck must be restrict her from moving away, she must be not able to eat grass easily.
Oh my...look at the size of the bell...he can't get lost, can he?
