Umbonia crassicornis
A majestic mother Treehopper standing guard over her brood. Family Membracidae.
Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.
Although lines, markings and wings can mess up a bit the disguise, this is the most beautiful of all treehoppers in shaped thorn. His imitation of thorns green is the most perfect, my opinion.
First pic seems very new angle to capture a tree hopper..Nice one Lauren :)
Thank you so much Ingrid, we also have a brown Treehopper on Goldenrod here, is it the same as yours?

Great shots Lauren. There's a mission for insect parenting behaviours I think.
My brown species of thorn bugs are still active in a goldenrod meadow and are among the few that survived the late season onslaught of the baldfaced hornets, presumable packing in the food for the winter?
Membracidae, Membracinae, Hoplophorionini, Umbonia sp. and most probably Umbonia crassicornis, female.
