Barred Owl

Strix varia

Notes:

I was out at sunset and saw this owl fly through the trees and perch about 100 feet from me. Even though the light was fading I figured I'd try and get a picture. It's not the best quality, but it captures the look of the woods when the sun goes down and the owls wake up.

Yeah, it's hard to get a good shot at the times when you're most likely to actually see an owl. I posted an earlier spotting of one that I found asleep in a low branch during the day. I was very excited to be able to examine it so closely. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/678...

Sometimes it's just important to hurry and 'capture' them no matter what the conditions. He looks so regal perched there!
