White Rhinoceros or Square-lipped rhinoceros

Description:

Wide mouth used for grazing and is the most social of all rhino species. The White Rhino consists of two subspecies: the Southern White Rhino, with an estimated 17,460 wild-living animals at the end of 2007. Our grandson was fascinated by them and had to be watched as they came to the edge of our camp at Tshukudu on the edge of Kruger National Park. (Note the Red beaked Oxpeckers on the calf)

Habitat:

Savana and thorn veldt.
