Disturbed coastal band of freshwater swamp forest.
These baby bandicoots were still in their mother's marsupial pouch when she was killed (for meat) while trying to run away from people clearing vegetation. Here, they have just been taken out of her pouch and the man holding them will attempt to raise them as pets.

Well yes, a lot gets killed for food (cassowaries, monitor lizards, mammals). In this instance some guys were clearing secondary growth and the bandicoot unfortunately ran right toward one and he took an opportunistic swipe at it.
How sad. Were they killed by tribal hunters? If so I guess bushmeat is very much part of their culture.
My goodies!! They killed this adorable animal just to have their meat?
I can't imagine there's much meat on a bandicoot. Most of the ones I have seen are muskrat sized. The babies are beyond cute.
I do not like the fact they killed the mommy which has babies....to me it is cruel if they knew of it at the time. I understand wanting the meat...but are they that desperate for the meat when there is abundant of meat supply? We are not having femine. I guess I do not understand till I meet with the people.
Are the babies being cared for?
