American Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Description:

86cm long 2mtr wing span Distinctive white head and tail - strong yellow beak for tearing flesh - Brown body

Habitat:

Resident near rivers and lakes abundent in Alaska - locally very common in northen Ohio but in Southern Ohio only one pair by the commonly resident by the river 45 miles east of Cincinnati - (not seen recently)

Notes:

I visited the zoo with my English family and grandchildren and the Eagle was washing itself from a large bowl of water. Shot with a Canon XT and Sigma 70 - 300 mm zoom handheld.
