Hello Bridget. Thanks for your suggestion of Scolia nobilitata. However I believe this is a North American species. http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?searc... My spotting is from New Guinea. Range is the first consideration when making a suggestion. Does the suggested species occur in the region of the spotting? That is probably the most important thing to consider because many species do look alike. Cheers
