Hoverfly

Sphaerophoria scripta (?)

Description:

Another hoverfly species. I'm not 100% sure I got the ID right. This one mimics a wasp, as opposed to the drone fly that mimics honey bees.

No problem. I'll keep looking to see if I can find anything else it could be.

Definitely not angle of shot, because I reacted to it when I took the picture :) But I will look into what Heliophylus it might be considering that this is the only genus with those markings (did not know that). Thanks alot!

I'm pretty sure it isn't S. scripta. That one has a very narrow abdomen. Only Heliophylus sp. have the markings that yours have. The abdomen shape could be just the angle of the shot. From above the abdomen would be wider and flatter. H. pendulus abdomen does narrow at the base slightly.

I was wondering about that, but doesn't the tail look a little bit too elongate for H. pendulus? Could it be Sphaerophoria scripta? Appreciate you input here!

I'm pretty sure that this is one of the Heliophilus sp. of hoverfly. Possibly H. pendulus.
