Red-tailed Hawk (juvenile)

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

These two hawks visited our backyard 2 days in a row. I tentatively identify it as a Broad-winged or a Rough-legged Hawk. To me, they look like they are young.

Habitat:

We live in an oak-forested area - swamps and ponds nearby. Surrounding area includes farmland, larger lakes.

Notes:

The darker one (the last 3 pics) was watching a squirrel...but it left it untouched.

It looks like a red-tailed hawk from the front and side, but it's hard to say without seeing the back of it's tail!
