I will get pictures of the possibly Rana sylvatica if I got to the person's house where they are at again.

I already checked that website. I was wondering if you knew anymore.

Okay. Do you know if Rana sylvatica are in or near Raleigh? Because I think I found some in Raleigh.

The difference is not subtle in the least bit if you are familiar with them. The link you just provided has circular spots, and they aren't arranged in two rows down the back. You can see one area that has 3 spots across and right below is 1 spot across. I assure you this is a pickerel frog, and seems many others agree with me based on the number of times the "+1" button has been pushed on my suggestion :)

That one difference seems subtle.

Leopard frogs have circular spots scattered all over the body. Pickerel frogs have rectangular spots arranged in two rows down the back between the dorsolateral folds, then also some more rectangular blotches on the sides of the body.

What about the northern leopard frogs AshleyT? How is this different from them?

Thanks so much AshleyT!

Two rows of rectangular shaped blotches down the box is your key to this being a pickerel frog. Wood frogs have little to none blotches on them, and have a dark eye mask.
