Spotted Turtle

Clemmys guttata

Notes:

Until a few years ago Spotted Turtles were a protected species in Massachusetts. Populations are considered stable enough that protected status was removed, yet they are still uncommon and vulnerable to habitat destruction. This one was found in a wooded area with many vernal pools.

Good to hear their populations are doing better there. In Georgia they are considered "unusual", however I have never seen one in the wild.
