White Admiral

Description:

This large butterfly has a wingspan of about 3-3 1/2 inches. Upper side of the wing is typically dark with a white band running through the center of each wing. On the outside of each white band are rows of red spots on the hind wings. White spots line the margins of both fore and hind wings. The underside is shown in the photo above.

Habitat:

Found on the edges of coniferous and deciduous forests. I found this particular individual nectaring on Clethera flowers.
