I agree that it is a demoiselle crane. It is not native to the area where it was photographed, so must have been a captive bird or an escapee. See http://www.savingcranes.org/demoiselle-c... for more information and a range map. (I used to work at the Crane Foundation, so I'm a bit biased towards their website.)

you are right Clement it is a demoiselle crane
the plumes on the rear of the head are characteristic
its also a young bird
