A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I came across this bird in a Wetland Reserve one afternoon in Singapore.
ha ha Ashish I need to start building up my picture album again, I need to go and start taking some new photos! Just don't have as much time as I would like.
I agree that it is a demoiselle crane. It is not native to the area where it was photographed, so must have been a captive bird or an escapee. See http://www.savingcranes.org/demoiselle-c... for more information and a range map. (I used to work at the Crane Foundation, so I'm a bit biased towards their website.)
you are right Clement it is a demoiselle crane
the plumes on the rear of the head are characteristic
its also a young bird

Thank you for the identification! I am very new to Project Noah so trying to get the hang of things on here.
