Green-eyed Bee

Anthophora bimaculata

Description:

Green-eyed bee. Has a lighter, fluffy face and is very fast. Attacks other bees and even giant bumble bees by knocking them out in mid flight. Regularly inspects it's area for intruding bees.

Notes:

Thanks to Martin Moore from RBKA, Florin (Museum ID team) from the Natural History Museum and KristalWatrous who ID'ed for me. Confirmed behaviour on: http://www.earthlife.net/insects/solbees... Confirmed other on: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?searc...

@KristalWatrous - Thank you very much for the ID :-D
I've found some more information which confirms it's behaviour too.

A brilliant photo, stunning clarity. It looks like one of the digger bees to me, something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amegilla_qu....
