Actaea rubra
Usually low growing perennial but can reach 1 m in height. The berries can be red or white, but I have only seen the bright, waxy red. All parts of this plant are highly poisonous.
Pacific temperate rain forest of fir, hemlock, maple, alder, and birch.

I found this Baneberry beside the trail when I was hiking from Mission Heritage Park up to Westminster Abbey.
Nice photo and info. What trail were you on?
