Common St. John's Wort

Hypericum perforatum

Description:

Fairly tall plant. Thin, round stem without hair. Small oval leaves. Yellow flowers grow in bunches at the top. Each flower has five petals. Small dark dots can be seen along the edges of the petals.

Habitat:

Suburban roadside.

Notes:

Used medicinally for thousands of years. Is still used today in homeopathic medicine as a mood enhancer mainly. Non-native and considered a noxious weed in some areas.
