Calopteryx virgo
Beautiful Demoiselle is a member of the Calopterygidae family (family enclosing large, often metallic coloured, damselflies), with a body size some 45 to 50 mm and the wingspan of some 70 mm. In repose, wings are kept upwards. The mature adult male (pictured) are all metallic blue, with dark blue wings, while the younger males would have their wings brown, developing the blue sheen with age.
Seen on wooded and shadowy shores of a fast flowing stream. The stream, named Ljuta (meaning 'Angry one', describing its cold waters), starts from surrounding hills, and then flows through fertile and forested lowlands until it hits the Adriatic. Mediterranean environment, farmlands and woodlands.
