A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Rhincodon typus
Young male of 4.2m. It was found in a net in Cantagay, Jagna. It was brought close to shore to remove the fishing gear. Net removed with no scar or marks from left on the animal. It was released and swam away successfully. Coastal area nearby were checked and no re-stranding was spotted. Being the largest shark (and fish) in the world, it is a filter feeder. Individuals can be identified by the unique pattern of spots and there is a identification library online (http://www.whaleshark.org).
Tropical and warm-temperate marine environment.
I encountered this during a trip funded by OPCFHK. More could be found on facebook pages if interested. http://www.facebook.com/pages/OPCF-USSP-... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Large-Mari...

Yup~ The conservation work at Bohol is quite encouraging. This successful rescue is really a good demonstration. Now the community at Jagna always report stranding encountered to NGOs to help the wildlife, just like another successful rescue & rehabilitation shown below~

Thank you for sharing Ning!
I love whale sharks, still something I want to see on a dive. I'm so glad this guy was rescued and successfully made it back out into the open sea!
Awesome rescue!
