Polycephalomyces tomentosus
The brown balls are a slime mold that have a fungus growing on them. My mycologist friend Larry Millman found these when I was with him and gave me the ID.

Brilliant. I never would have thought. The time frames for mycos always seemed too long for the world of myxos but there we go. Thanks heaps Tom.
