Northern Water Snake

Nerodia sipedon sipedon

Description:

Large colubrid snake, as the name implies they spend most of their time underwater.

Habitat:

"Wide variety of aquatic and semi-aquatic habitats. Lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, creeks, canals, swamps, marshes, and wet meadows. May be found under rocks, logs or boards, but are mainly seen in the open basking or swimming." -- http://www.paherps.com/herps/snakes/wate...

Notes:

I used this guy for a video contest called Stand Up for Snakes. He's the biggest snake I've ever caught in the wild, and he was kind enough not to bite me.
