Part of the Buprestidae. Approximately 4-5cm/1.5-2" in length. Most have iridescent colours, but not this one. Just plain black and white.

Chris, there's a map to the right of the picture that shows you where it was spotted.
I can't help too much but I think it's a beetle in the Buprestidae family.
Where did you spot this?
