Papilio glaucus
black form of the female eastern tiger swallowtail
Thanks KarenL, I'm pretty excited that you've used my spotting in today's blog! Now if I could only get a SOTD!
Congratulations Anna, this spotting is featured in the Project Noah blog today! http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/3039027...
Alice, I think both common names can be used. "Eastern" also distinguishes it from the Western tiger swallowtail, Papilio rutulus.
Take the Eastern off your title and you are correct.
