Tail too short for grackle and range all wrong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiscalus_q... clearly shows they are not on west coast as I mentioned originally. Blackbird.

crow looks totally different and So cal doesn't have grackles - at least not usually. The yellow eye is typical of male blackbird

Not Crows.... yellow eyes don't fit. Maybe Grackle?

Difficult to tell the size from the photos but I am guessing they are American crows.
