Notes:

This is a colony of tiny tentacled animals embedded in a gelatinous substance. Bryozoans resemble corals somewhat, but belong to an entirely different phylum.

That's a nice marine bryozoan. When I lived near the sea I'd occasionally see them encrusting old shells and driftwood. These freshwater colonies can get huge and almost always create a bit of a fuss when people notice them and wonder what they are.

Awesome! Bryozoans are incredibly diverse in appearance, check out this marine one I found on a beach http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/627... This one is cool, is really does look like some kind of massive coral!
