Squid spider

Miagrammopes species

Description:

It problably doesn't have a common name and for the resemblance of a squid, I'm calling it the squid spider. It was found in a brazilian rainforest area, and as the oposite of most of spiders, it has only four eyes placed laterally on its body to better accomodate its anterior leg muscles in a longitudinal position.

Habitat:

Atlantic rainforest

Miagrammopes is in Uloboridae, though I've seen tetragnathids in the same area and they're neat looking as well.

This is probably in the family Tetragnathidae. I believe the common name is the long-jawed orb weaver... although, squid spider is an awesome common name.

Yes, I'm doing a spider survey in the area during weekends and I'm always shooting the new species under a white bg, this was one was the last week's best finding

I like the name squid spider :D What a cool photo. Did you find it in the wild and put it on a white background to get better shots of it? They're so neat.
