Myathropa florea
Myathropa florea (Hover flies, aka syrphids or flower flies) is a very common European and North African species of hoverfly. They have also been spotted at the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility at the University of California, Davis, CA.

Alice hit the nail on the head there! This is actually a kind of hover fly that mimics looking like a bee :) I thought it looked like a kind of hover fly that we get in the UK, Myathropa florea, but found on Wiki article it only lives in Europe and N. Africa... but on BugGuide.net, someone found some specimens in North America! They actually found them in CA too, so maybe there's local population someone introduced! So a cool find for you :) I love these photos, so much detail! I love how he's all covered in pollen :D
