Beautiful and colourful butterfly that has a widespread distribution (Europe to Far East Asia). I don't know if they have become less common, but I am pretty sure I saw them more often in my childhood. Peacocks are easily recognisable by the four colourful eyespots found on the red upperside of their fore- and hindwings. Yet another visitor to the ever-popular Buddleia.

Gorgeous butterfly! Love the name. :)
Glad you like it Darwin26, I really love these peacock butterflies. Feels like they are rarer in Norway, my homecountry, now than what they used to be.
Gorgeous Butterfly, looks like my oil palet. that rich burnt sienna ummmmmm
thank you,
Lucky you, sounds like a wonderful place!
Yes we have many plants my wife and I have collected - lots of locals - We have a forest behind the house and the broad Ohio river two streets below us. This really is the first summer we have had time to experience this lovely place.
Thank you very much MickGrant! :-) They bring back childhood memories for me... but I don't see them as often in Norway anymore.. You have a wonderful butterfly collection - looks like you've got a popular garden!
Gorgeous photo! - I remember them in Norfolk in my Dad's garden among his flowers.
