Red palm weevil

Rhynchophorus ferrugineus

Description:

I found this fellar at work, he'd dried out but was perfect so I brought him home to take some photos of. Approximately 4cm in length, with a prominent 'horn', five spots on the back of the head, and striped/grooved wings. Brown upperparts, black underparts except for a brown triangle near the back.

Notes:

I found this fellar at work, he'd dried out but was perfect so I brought him home to take some photos of. This palm weevil is causing massive destruction of the date palms all over the world.

That's what I thought too. :) I would take a guess at the red palm weevil, knowing where I found it - there are infected trees at that property. :(
