Giant Madagascar Day Gecko

Phelsuma grandis

Description:

A giant Madagascar day gecko at Sedgwick Zoo. Like all day geckos, males are very feisty little guys. Well noted escape artists in captivity. P. grandis will darken when under stress. If a female rejects a male she may also darken, but the males being the feisty little buggers they are will pursue the female and if she cannot escape can seriously hurt her. It's best to separate unsuccessful breeding attempts of this gecko in captivity. In the wild they eat insects and nectar.

Habitat:

Native to Madagascar.
