Description:

Low shrub, medium-small leaves, black berry emerging from a furry sheath.

Habitat:

Mountain, alpine

Notes:

Saw this plant while hiking the Brighton Lakes Trail. Edible berry, but bitter (some say "vile").

My reference, (Underhill, "Wild Berries of the Pacific Northwest") says they taste vile.
