Description:

A Least Sandpiper, the smallest shorebird in the world at 6'' long, foraging for food in a brackish pond. It was just after sunrise, and all the white in the pictures is dew-covered feathers from different birds that have been molting over the last couple months.

Habitat:

Shorelines mostly.

The white stuff is actually feathers from other birds, mostly seagulls, that are wet with dew.

These are gorgeous. The perfect reflections in the still water, with that wonderful burnt umber glow from the sun... wow, so beautiful! Lovely photos, thank you for sharing them :) By the way, I'm curious, what is the odd white stuff on the water? You can see it most in the 2nd pic, I thought it was melting snow but that doesn't really make sense if it was taken in Aug! The only other thing I can think of is salt deposits, but that doesn't make sense either!
