You can make jelly from these berries, but they have so many seeds, it is a lot of work! The bark and roots was used to make a bright yellow dye for basket materials. Berries were also used as an antidote for shellfish poisoning, but with caution as it is a very potent drug. Hmmm!

I see the Oregon Grape is in bloom in the woods now so I will add a photo of the blossom!
