Wheel Bug (Assassin Bug)

Arilus cristatus

Description:

A mature Wheel Bug found on the dirt trail of the nature reserve at Garvan Woodland Gardens, Hot Springs, AR.

Habitat:

It was found resting on a dusty footpath near a large Loblolly Pine root with exposed, glistening sap.

Notes:

Despite being September, it was very hot outside, likely in the 90 Fahrenheit range. I am having problems adding its video to the spotting, for now, if you want to see its glittering gold back, the 10 second vid link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-gGKF5w...
