Least Bittern

Ixobrychus exilis

Description:

A very secretive heron who is smaller than the American Bittern.

Habitat:

Normally the marshes, this time, a sidewalk area.

Notes:

I spent two weeks searching for this little guy. They hide better than any bird I have searched for. I got home from a long day of birding, pulled into the parking lot, and there he was, waiting for me. He was grounded by some offshore gusts I think. Flew off after he got done posing.
