King Quail

Coturnix chinensis

Description:

The female King Quail has the light coloration; the male has the blue & rust coloration. Their legs & feet are yellow/orange (2nd picture) & their beaks are black. The female was not in evidence most of the time I was in the exhibit; she was busy herding chicks back to their hiding spot when they were oh so eager to explore! Spotted in captivity; see notes.

Habitat:

Wetlands. Examples include rice paddy fields and wet grasslands.

Notes:

Spotted at the Florida Museum of Natural History Butterfly Rainforest Exhibit http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/

Thanks! That was the one shot that caught them when they were not in motion. They are very energetic! I'm sure having chicks about added to the overall amount of motion.
