Krigia biflora
Yellow-orange, dandelion-like flower heads atop a smooth forking stem; sap milky. This native perennial is related to hawkweeds (Hieracium). The smaller Dwarf Dandelion (K. virginica), found in sandy sites, has a solitary flower head rising from a set of toothed or lobed basal leaves and is less than 1 foot (30 cm) tall. Potato Dandelion (K. dandelion), which has a large, solitary flower head on a leafless stem and a tuber 1/2-1 inch (1.5-2.5 cm) long just below the surface, is found from southern New Jersey south to Florida, west to Texas, and north to Missouri.
Native Distribution: Manitoba and Ontario; New York and Massachusetts south to Georgia, west to Oklahoma and Missouri, and north to Minnesota. Native Habitat: Open woods and meadows
