Western Tanager

Piranga Ludoviciana

Description:

One of the most colorful birds of Colorado and my favorite, the Western Tanager! I was so lucky to get a long photo-op with this amazing bird! It was collecting insects for its chicks in a nearby nest (notice the worm in its mouth!) And, may I mention, it had a beautiful song!!

Nice pictures, Sarah! I love them, too. I accidentally discovered that Western Tanagers love oranges when I started putting out oranges for the Orioles. I get a lot more photo ops now. I'm envious of you. They don't nest here. I only get to see them passing through.
