Knapweed; Abrepuños

Centaurea ornata

Description:

Almost one meter high, the intense yellow flowers are quick to see in the distance. I found it quite late in the year, already October and at 1200 meter above the sea level. It has been a very warm Autumn, no doubt. Easy to recognize with its resin-dotted leaves and spine-tipped phyllaries. This plant is endemic of the Iberian peninsula.

Habitat:

Spotted at 1200 meters at the edge between an oak forest (Q. Pyrenaica) and a pine tree forest (P. sylvestris), at an open degraded area close to tthe road.

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D300. Exposure Time: 1/125 sec.; f/6.3; ISO Speed Rating: 800. Exposure Bias: 0 EV. Focal Length: 300.0 mm. No flash fired.
